The research groups related to the Graduate Program in Science and Mathematics Education are linked to one or more of the three existing Research Lines in the program. These groups, formed by PPGECM faculty, undergraduate students (Research Initiation and Final Projects), and Graduate students (Master’s and Doctorate), are hosted and develop their activities in various campuses of UFPR and UTFPR.
GPEACM – Research Group on Teaching and Learning of Science and Mathematics
Leaders: Prof. Dr. Sérgio Camargo and Prof.ª Dr.ª Tania Teresinha Bruns Zimer
This research group resulted from the collaboration of professors in the fields of Science Education and Mathematics Education participating in the Teaching and Learning Laboratory of Mathematics and Physical and Biological Sciences (LEA) of the Department of Theory and Practice of Teaching (DTPEN) of the Education Sector (ED) at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), established since 1985. From the discussions on research concerning Teacher Education and Teaching and Learning of Science and Mathematics, the need to create this group arose in 2014. As a result, the group regularly meets for studies on theoretical references and discussions about research conducted by its members. The group also participates in educational events, presents papers, and publishes articles in relevant journals.

GPINTEDUC – Research Group on Innovation and Technologies in Education

This group aims to foster the integration of technologies and digital innovations into pedagogical actions, enabling the implementation, investigation, and experimentation of new possibilities for constructing an environment where students are active agents in their own learning. Participants are expected to acquire technological knowledge that allows the experimentation of new pedagogical and technological practices, enabling immersion in educational challenges, thus enhancing experiences and making them mediators of technological spaces for discussion, research, and innovation.

GPEM – Research Group on Mathematics Education
Leaders: Prof. Dr. Emerson Rolkouski and Prof.ª Dr.ª Elisangela de Campos
The group started in 2001, originating from the research group Cognition, Learning, and Social Interaction, formed in 1991. Between 1995 and 2000, it added researchers from the Education Sector and the Department of Mathematics. From 2001 to 2008, it expanded the number of participants and, in 2010, became part of the Mathematics Education line of the Graduate Program in Science and Mathematics Education (PPGECM) from the Exact Sciences Sector at UFPR. During this period, many dissertations and theses were defended, and students who obtained their degrees in projects linked to the group began to contribute as researchers and trainers. Since 2019, it has been associated with the research line Culture, School, Teaching, and Formative Processes in Education of the Graduate Program in Education (PPGE), in the Education Sector of UFPR.

It also seeks to rethink initial and continuing teacher education based on new foundations, promoting critical awareness regarding Science Education.

GEPETeL – Research Group on Education, Technologies, and Languages

The Research Group on Education, Technologies, and Languages (GEPETeL) focuses on the relationships between Education, Technologies, and Languages in educational processes at different levels and modalities of Basic Education. The group addresses didactic-pedagogical issues, researching and producing innovative methodologies that interface with citizenship formation, diversity, inclusion, languages, and educational projects. It also explores the potential of using and developing technologies in school practices, particularly in teacher training. The group scientifically integrates studies on curriculum, technologies, and languages, with premises grounded in the contextual analysis of learning challenges and teaching planning based on Universal Design for Learning, within an Inclusive Education perspective.

We are a group that develops academic studies and research related to the use of Technologies in Mathematics Education. We are affiliated with the Graduate Program in Science and Mathematics Education (PPGECM) at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and the Graduate Program in Scientific, Educational, and Technological Training (PPGFCET) at the Federal University of Technology – Paraná (UTFPR). GPTEM is also part of the School Technology Observatory Network (OTec). The group’s primary goal is to study the use of new technologies in Mathematics Education, focusing on their understanding, mastery, and development of new technological resources. The group aims to research the use of Digital Technologies (DT) in teaching and learning practices in Mathematics, particularly those related to the use of Learning Objects, Digital Whiteboards, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Computational Thinking, among others.

Since then, it has focused on exploring, debating, and deepening discussions on the thematic areas of curriculum studies, decoloniality, diversity, and subalternity. GECUDEDIS has established itself as a group of resistance and counter-conduct in search of (in)surgence, (re)existence, and (re)living, in an attempt to subvert hegemonic logic within and outside academia.

EnCiMaT: Science Education, Mathematics Education, and ICTs in Teaching

Research in the field of education, particularly in the teaching of Exact Sciences and Technologies, has a positive impact on understanding the modus operandi of education professionals at the Fundamental and High School levels in teaching Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computing. It is expected that group members will engage in research in teaching methodology within the exact sciences or computing fields, with the concrete goal of achieving results in the group’s regional context, i.e., the western region of Paraná. The object of study, which is the evaluation of teaching methods used by teachers of exact sciences and technologies in elementary and high school students, will also be complemented by research in the basic areas of physics, chemistry, mathematics, and computing, with a view toward the subsequent implementation of teaching and outreach projects in the communities of the aforementioned region.
